What is Tarot?
Origins, purpose, and how it works
What is Tarot?
Tarot is a deck of 78 cards used for divination, self-reflection, and personal growth. It started in 15th-century Italy as a card game. Over the following centuries people began using it to look at their own minds and the questions in their lives.
How Does It Work?
Tarot doesn't predict a fixed future. It reflects where you are now: your mood, the patterns you may not notice, and the paths open to you. Each card works like a mirror, showing a common human experience, emotion, or archetype.
The Deck Structure
A standard tarot deck contains:
22 Major Arcana: Life's big themes and lessons
56 Minor Arcana: Day-to-day experiences across four suits
Who Can Read Tarot?
Anyone. You don't need a special gift, just curiosity, a willingness to reflect, and practice. The more you work with the cards, the more easily their meanings come to you.
